Left to his own devices.....
Max is having so much fun exploring his new surroundings. It'll probably be a couple of months before we see him walking, but what he gets into just by crawling around!
Just the other day I was in my office, and suddenly heard a cacophony of Dave Brubeck's Quartet blaring from our living room as if they were performing a live concert right in our very own house.
Sure enough, I go to the source of sound and find Max with iDock remote in his hand, bouncing up and down, quite proud of the fact he figured out how to work this musical mystery.
Today, again in my office and what do I hear but the familiar ker-plonk of water in our toilet bowl, with horror and a certain amount of amusement, I find Max standing over the toilet seat looking into the water to find the family heirloom silver bell (it was Billy's as a child) at the bottom of bowl. At least he didn't try to stuff his favourite friend 'Doggie Dog' into the bowl as a certain young Simon did with his 'Mr. Bobo'.
Now I don't have Billy to blame when my phone or lipstick goes missing, if I just try to think of the oddest place it might be (said lipstick in the toy box) than I know Max is up to his usual tricks and keeping me on my toes!

Max's First Birthday

We had a great big celebration for our big boy.
We set up a tent in the garden, invited all our friends and their kids with entertainment for Max consisting of live animals such as chinchillas, rabbits, hedgehogs, snakes eeek! and other furry friends.
Although the party was pretty crazy and we know Max won't remember a thing, it was fun to have a big party for our most wonderful son!

More little Milestones
Max has finally learned what this crawling business is all about and he LOVES the new found freedom! Although it took him 11 months to learn, he has mastered it and is working on his speed. He motors around the place with his tush wiggling in the air and his little legs doing double time.
Another new thing Max has up his sleeve is giving us 'presents' (in which he'll extend his hand to give you whatever object he happens to have). Whether it is a piece of chewed up food or gunky milk bottle, we accept them gratefully and with a lot of love.

Max gets baptized
This Father's Day was especially important, not only did we celebrate Billy's first time as a Daddy, but it was also Max's Baptism. We christened Max at the Eglinton St. George United Church. It's sad to say, but this was the only other time we had been to church since we got married there 9 years ago.
Max looked really princely in his christening gown - even though Billy kept calling it a dress and said it made him look like a girl. The gown happened to originate as my Grandmother's wedding dress. In time, it was sewn by my loving Great Aunt into a christening gown for myself and Simon, and now recently worn by Max. Wonderful moments were spent in this outfit from generation to generation.
Also, a pic capturing Max and his girlfriend Olivia. What a cute couple!Helping celebrate the day, were Max's godparents, Fiona & Chris Johnston and a special visit from Baba and Grandfather Poole.

Baby Signing is working!
For the past couple of months Max and I have been going to a baby singing class, My Smart Hands.
Baby signing proves effective in communicating with your baby especially when they can understand what you are saying but not yet able to speak the words. With a few simple hand gestures your baby can easily communicate his needs without getting frustrated.
Here Max is signing his first word Milk. Sometime it works and then sometimes Max doesn't even know what he wants.
Watch.

Let's Play Ball
Max is more and more boy and less and less baby these days.
When he sits on the floor with his perfect posture he looks more like a 2 year old than a 10 month old.
Although he is still not crawling he gets around just fine by sliding backwards along the floor with his bum. This thing we call 'scuttlebumming' is really effective when he only has his diaper covers on.
Other than that he is for the most part stationary, allowing me to take quick bathroom breaks (I know he will be in the same perfect-posture-position as when I left).
His favourite activity is throwing and playing catch with his ball. You can check out his savvy ball throwing skills below.
